Kite surfing on North Island, Seychelles

Every day the Seychelles volunteers patrol the East Beach on North Island looking for turtle tracks. But my last day as a volunteer, I went there for another reason: to meet Austen Johnston, the North Island Hotel Operations Manager.

Austen Johnston Kite surfing on North Island[/caption]Austen oversees the day-to-day operations of the hotel (housekeeping, front office, food and beverage, activities, spa). He's been practicing kite surfing (or kite boarding, as some people call it) for seven years, mostly in Cape Town, South Africa. North Island in the Seychelles was awarded as the National Geographic World Legacy Awards winner for Conserving the Natural World 2017. Our volunteer program allows you to come and join the environmental team on the ground and help them carry out important conservation work.
