A Heart for Nature: Mo’s Journey to Protecting Priority Species

Mohau Marwane, known as “Mo”, joined the Wildlife ACT team in 2024 as a Priority Species Monitor. While he may have grown up in the concrete jungle of Johannesburg, Mo always felt a pull towards nature and its inhabitants. His love of wildlife shines through in his monitoring work on uMkhuze Game Reserve.

My passion for animals began while working at the SPCA, providing domestic animals with care and ensuring that they get the healthcare that they need. I am driven to strive for the availability of good healthcare for animals.

I completed a diploma in Nature Management at the Centurion Academy in 2023. I then gained valuable experience on nature reserves in the Limpopo region.

My love for nature continued to grow as I embarked on unforgettable experiences in the bushveld. My experiences uncovered a passion for conservation, and the wellbeing of animals in various environments.

Mohau Marwane is one of Wildlife ACT's newest Priority Species Monitors

In 2024, I was fortunate to get an opportunity to train with Wildlife ACT. During my training, I gained valuable experience and skills, as well as an appreciation for the wide scope of priority species conservation work that Wildlife ACT provides in Zululand. Since completing my training, I have been based on uMkhuze Game Reserve.

My daily monitoring efforts help the management of the reserve to ensure that the priority species are thriving in their environment, as well as providing them with important data to contribute to effective management of the reserve.

We look forward to sharing more of Mo’s journey and adventures with the Wildlife ACT pack!
